Huia-ariki refers to the very rare light, pale brownish plumage of the now extinct Huia bird of New Zealand. The cause of the pale plumage in some huia is uncertain. These birds may have been partially albino or simply old. The huia-ariki were highly prized by Māori and Pākehā. They represent the elders and hold the highest status hence I've title my huia-ariki The Matriarch
